Hello ! We are a family of 5, Scarlet, André, Saskia, Julie and Karine. Breeding Birmans has been a passion to all of us for several years. We live in Switzerland, 10 km away from Fribourg. Our prefix, la Tour d'Argent, is registered with the Fifé since February 1995. I am the Chairman of the Swiss Birman Club since 2004. Since 2008 we are also registered with TICA, and Cat Club Suisse, member of Cat Club Europe. Our cattery is approved by the veterinarian health service of the Canton of Fribourg.

Our Birmans come from English, Swedish, Dutch, American and Swiss lines.

We made detailed research on pedigrees before selecting our breeding cats, and try to breed typy cats without exceeding inbreeding boundaries. We visited Holland, Sweden and the UK before choosing the catteries where our cats came from. We have started an new outcross line with Persians (See Outcross line) as we believe the Inbreeding Coefficicent of the Birman has steadily increased to a lever where some action has to be taken now.

We breed our own studs only for use with our own queens.

Our Birmans live with the family and have permanent access to the garden where they have a completely closed run of 5x5 m. Around the garden there is an almost invisible slightly electrified fence where the cats can play in complete safety. They can run, climb and watch the fish in the pond (see Garden).

We feed our cats with great care, and they receive fresh products every day. We have a few litters every year that grow up in the family home environment and are very well socialised.

Our cats are regularly wormed, vaccinated and test FIV and FelV negative. We have not had significant corona-virus titres so far.

The blood groups we have are mainly A but we keep a special B line.

All our Birmans are phenotypically devoid of genetic diseases and PKD checked.

Bitschi von Aquamarin, our first Birman, arrived in the family in 1995 and gave us Domino et Dandy de la Tour d’Argent. This little girl descended from great lines and had a very sweet temperament and extremely deep blue eyes.

Her son, Domino de la Tour d’Argent could have easily become a famous EuroChampion, but the time and circumstances were not right so he was neutered before reproducing.

Bitschi died accidentally in September 2002, but she stimulated us to start breeding again, and we shall always miss her.

We want to specially thank all the persons who helped us to make this cattery become true : Alice Weber, Sonia Burlet, Heinz Winiger, Eva Dressel, Marcia Owen, Paula Krechting-Haanappel, Greetje van Berkel-Derksen, Birgitta Inge, Anna Wallin, Hilde Lorvik, Yvonne Roschi, Camilla Axnér, Alwyn Hill and many many more.
